On average 25,000 fires in the home are reported every year as being caused by electrical faults, accidents or by misuse of electrical equipment.
 
 Remind your parents and other adults about these rules.
- Remember one appliance to one socket. Using multi-way adaptors can cause the socket to overheat and catch fire.
- Keep lead lengths to a minimum. Trailing wires are a potential hazard even when power is switched off.
- Never put leads under carpets. This causes wear to the cable, which can overheat.
- Never fix leads with metal staples.
- For any electrical repairs, consult a qualified electrician.
