Make sure you take your fire safety knowledge with you when you and your family go on holiday. Fires can start just as easily in hotels, caravans and tents as they do at home. Think about the dangers. For example, cooking out of doors is fun but it can also be risky business. You and your family can reduce the dangers just by taking a few simple precautions.
 Caravans
- Find out what the fire fighting arrangements are on any camp site where you stay.
- Keep a torch handy for emergencies, don't use candles.
- Take care when cooking - don't leave pans unattended.
- Keep matches out of children's reach.
- Children should not be left alone in a caravan.
- In the event of fire, you and your family must get out of the caravan or tent immediately. Sound the alarm and call the fire brigade.
Hotels
- Make sure your family reads the Fire Procedures Notice or Plan in your hotel bedroom. Noting emergency exit routes, call points and the designated assembly point.
Tents
- Allow at least 6m spacing between tents.
- NEVER use candles in or near a tent - use a torch.
- Discourage smoking, especially in smaller tents.
- Flammable liquids and gas cylinders should be kept outside the tent if possible.
