Travelling in a car

Remember the following rules:
- Only accept a lift from someone who is a qualified driver
- Never accept a lift from someone who you think may be under the influence of drink or drugs
- Never accept a lift from a stranger
- Always wear a seat belt both in the front and in the back seats
- If you are under 14, it is the driver's responsibility to make sure you are wearing a seat belt - if you are not wearing a seat belt, the driver may be fined up to £500 if the offence goes to court
- If you are over 14, it is your responsibility and you could be the one fined £500 for not wearing a seat belt

Pedestrian Safety
- Always wear reflective clothing after dark
- Always cross at a pelican or zebra crossing if possible and always wait for the green man to flash
- Never cross the road between parked cars
- If supervising young children always hold their hands in traffic
- If there is no pelican crossing always follow the GREEN CROSS CODE
