Did you know that every year people are injured or killed trespassing on railway tracks?

You should know that …

  • Walking on or near the tracks except at an official crossing is a crime - you or your parents could be fined up to £1000
  • Throwing things at trains is a crime - if serious damage is caused or life endangered you could be sent to prison for life
  • Putting things on the track that can damage or derail a train is a crime - you can be sent to prison for life for a serious offence
  • Did you know 7 children under the age of 16 died while trespassing on railways on 2005


A survey of school pupils from across the UK revealed some shocking facts.

  • 30% of pupils admitted to being involved in one or more acts of railway crime
  • 20% said that they had taken short cuts across or along a railway line
  • 10% said they had thrown things on a railway line
  • 8% had placed objects on the line or thrown things at passing trains
