Replace the battery once a year, give it a 'birthday' (unless the alarm is fitted with a 10 year sealed battery).

Do not remove the battery or borrow it for another appliance or toy. Research indicates that 41% of fitted battery smoke alarms failed to operate due to the removal of the battery.

Fire strikes when you least expect it, often during the night.  It also spreads very rapidly. smoke alarm advice

But the real killer is smoke. If you are asleep when a fire starts and you don't have a smoke alarm to wake you up, your chances of surviving are zero.

Smoke suffocates quickly and you and your family will be dead before the flames take hold.

A smoke alarm is an early warning system which warns you almost as soon as a fire starts and gives you and your family time to alert everyone and to escape safely.

You should have a smoke alarm on the ceiling of each floor of your home. Ideally, there should be one in your hallway and one on your landing.REPLACE THE BATTERY ONCE A YEAR IMAGE
