Some top tips - Fire fighters

Did you know that most fires happen during the night?

Some top tips

  • Never use a toaster under a shelf or kitchen unit. The heat from the toaster can cause a fire.
  • Never hang wet or damp tea towels on the cooker to dry.
  • Always turn off the heat when you have finished cooking.
  • Children should never use a chip pan.  Make sure your parents never fill a chip pan more than a third full. An electric deep fat fryer is safer for them to use.
  • Dirty grill pans and ovens cause fires. Help keep them clean.
  • Never use any electrical appliances in the bathroom.
  • Take special care with bathroom heaters. These must be well guarded and in a safe position.
  • Keep electric heaters out of reach. They can give you an electric shock.
  • Always keep at least one metre away from any heater.
  • If you have gas or oil heaters at home, special attention must be paid to proper ventilation and maintenance to prevent toxic fumes building up.
